The other two players to do that in school history were former and current NFL running backs DeAngelo Williams and Darrell Henderson. Gainwell plays in fast forward mode. His feet look like fingers on a piano, constantly moving left and right, up and down. He stays square to his target and will maximize his speed and agility. He isn’t an every down player when looking at the backfield, but he can man the slot and run quality routes paired with good hands. If a team can create a specific plan for him, he can touch the ball 10+ times per game and put points on the board. Ultra quick high stepper who can work his way through traffic. Has a way of maneuvering in and out of contact while staying square to the end zone. Really loose, but powerful and explosive burst. Won’t run big but can turn some of his juice into knocking defenders back in space. Elite pass-catcher who can run routes, see the ball in, catch and turn north. Can be moved around the offensive formation, giving the play caller multiple options. Runs hungry and feisty, will get through lazy space tackle attempts and break off the big play. Undersized and lacking lower body push. Hard to see him succeeding between the tackles on a play-to-play basis. Won’t move piles and won’t escape an honest, solid tackle attempt. Poor ball handling techniques, too much space between the ball and body. Poor blocker that won’t sustain good contact. Limited experience, played just one full year of college football. 2019 stats: 1459 yds, 6.3 ypc, 13 TD, 51 rec, 610 yds, 12.0 ypr, 3 TD. Third/fourth round. (A-30 5/8, H-9 7/8, BP-21, SS-4.46).
