First earned a starting role after KJ Costello got injured in 2019. Honorable Mention All- Pac 12 honors in last fall. Mills was a former top-shelf recruit, but his career never quite took off. Much of his status and grade still depend on projection rather than on field performance. While he does check a lot of boxes when it comes to arm talent and mechanics, he simply didn’t show enough in his 11 starts. He will be a backup for at least a year or two, however there is an intriguing skill set here. Strong frame with a sturdy, thick base. Maintains good foot speed when working through traffic and won’t go down easily on contact. Stays in rhythm with his reads and handles the ball well. Always ready for a rapid release. Smooth and repeatable release and throws a consistently clean ball. Rarely has one flutter. Can process information in a hurry and will trust his receivers to get to the spot. Gets rid of the ball before he needs to, trusts his eyes. Great accuracy on the roll to his right. Will struggle to pick up blitzes pre-snap. Simply needs more experience when it comes to reading complex defenses. Accuracy intermediate-to-deep is inconsistent, too many misses on simple throws. Will make his target adjust too much, too often. Won’t make a lot happen with his legs. 2020 stats: 129/195, 1508 yds, 66.2%, 7 TD, 3 INT, 37 yds rushing, 3 TD, 139.88 QB rating. Fourth/fifth round. (A-31 3/8, H-9 1/2, SS-4.40, VJ-32).
