Can see the whole field crystal clear while anticipating pressure. Successful deep ball thrower. Excellent ball path and trajectory, makes it a very catchable ball. Quarterback is a result-oriented position in college and the NFL. Mac Jones went to the pressure cooker at Alabama and not only competed but starred in one of the most storied programs in college football history. He is a stable and confident leader who played under center and in the shotgun. His measurables and athletic ability are above average as is his arm strength. He has the vision to find the open man and distribute the ball to numerous different pass catchers. He is focused and plays in a focused zone with quiet intensity. Cool and efficient. He plays with fast eyes which helps him process information quickly. Keeps his eyes down the field. Deadly accurate on horizontal routes. He was coached to take the easy throws. Doesn’t force the ball down the field. He can pick apart a zone defense. Disciplined enough to take what the defense gives him. Has the patience to let the receivers clear then throws through the seam of the defense. Very cool and poised in the pocket. Not afraid to check it down if his first and second reads are unavailable. During film study it looks impossible to make certain throws, but Jones does it because his ball apparently has eyes. He is a precision passer who waits for the window to open up on slant patterns for instance. That is part of his genius – he makes tough plays look easy. Jones can win the game from the pocket but is mobile enough to run for short yardage first downs. He has good footwork and balance. There is no question that Jones had great receivers including Heisman winner DeVonta Smith and Jaylen Waddle. His accuracy and ball placement gave his receivers a chance to extend plays without breaking stride. At the Senior Bowl practices he laid the ball into everyone’s hands and he had never worked with them before that week.
