Ourlads' Profile:
2021 Guide: What Ourlads' NFL Scouting Services said about PATRICK SURTAIN II: Alabama, 6010 205 4.42. Junior entry, three year starter, Plantation FL. Physical corner with ideal height and length for the position. Plays press with varied technique along with press and bail to a deep outside zone. Physical at the line he normally ignores the first move away from his leverage and maintains balance in two hand jam. Can stick a receiver at the line and squeeze a receiver to the sideline on an outside release. Solid mirror ability on route breaks with the speed to stay with vertical routes. Fluid in transitions he can easily turn pedal to lateral run when bailing. Changes direction quickly and adjusts speed to the speed of release to stay in phase with the receiver. Quick to recover if separated on a cut. In outside zone coverage reads the quarterback and receiver and maintains cushion on deep routes. Sees the threats and sticks to responsibility by not getting attracted to shallow routes when he has deep outside coverage. Reads the quarterback delivery key and is quick to break on the ball. Flashes ball skills and can get his hands to the catch point. Closes voids in zones and is always looking for work. As a hard corner can ride a receiver to the sideline and easily flip his hips to sink under inside breaks. Can be physical tackling but is normally a wrap up tackler with some inconsistency. Not the best take on guy versus a stalk block which is surprising as physical as he can be in press. Will occasionally give up leverage in press to a physical quick receiver. Has some trouble locating the ball when in phase on deep vertical route. There have been times he has perfect position but still gives up a catch. Outside of a few lapses he has been an outstanding player and has the tools of an elite NFL corner. 2020 stats: 38 T, 3.5 TFL, 12 PBU, 2 QBH, 1 INT (1 TD). First round. (A-32 1/4, H-10, VJ-39, SS-NA).
