Ourlads' Profile:

2021 Guide: What Ourlads' NFL Scouting Services said about PENEI SEWELL: Oregon, 6047 331 5.10. Junior entry from Malaeimi, American Samoa. Two-year starter that opted out of the 2020 season. Earned Honorable Mention all-conference honors as a true freshman in 2018 before being named Co-Pac 12 Offensive Player of the Year in 2019. He delivered on his highly touted high school recruit profile, ending his playing career at Oregon as the winner of the Outland and Morris Trophy (the Morris Award is voted on by defensive line opponents). Has elite potential that stems from his combination of size, athleticism, and techniques. A consistent weapon in the trenches that has an extremely high win rate both as a run and pass blocker. He is a comfortable mover. Has outstanding hand strength, and always looks under full control no matter the situation. Because he opted out of the 2020 season he will enter the league with just 20 college games under his belt. Needs to develop more power and trust in his lower half and become less dependent on simply being more talented than his opponent. Was a man among boys in college, but his subtle and hard to notice weaknesses will need to be cleaned up if he wants to carry that success into the NFL. Checks all the boxes when looking at the physical requirements of a left tackle. Tall and thick with easy ability to carry a lot of weight on a nicely developed frame. He is long enough and shows the easy-foot speed to keep things moving and active. Plus body control and balance. Excels with his initial contact, constantly hitting his point with his hands. Will get a strong initial punch and maintains his positioning. Adjusts well against both power and speed. Shows the mental awareness and physical ability to alter his approach against complex blitzing and stunt schemes up front. Smart player that doesn’t get overwhelmed. Team player who will always look for extra work downfield. Chases the action and looks for bodies to pick off. Pad level and knee bend are inconsistent. Needs to engage from the hips down more consistently rather than just lean on defenders as a run blocker. Does not always maintain a tree-trunk type anchor in pass protection. Gives up too much ground against power. Needs to keep that pocket wider on his side. Will have a tendency to play soft for stretches. First round. (A-33 1/4, H-10 3/8, BP-30, 10-1.79).
