Ourlads' Profile:
2020 Guide: What Ourlads' Scouting Services said about CASEY TOOHILL: Stanford, 6043 250 4.63. Two year starter, San Diego, CA. Second-team All-Pac 12 in 2019. Missed some time with injury as a junior so he is still developing. Spent most of his time with his hand in the dirt in a 4 or 5 alignment. Quick at the snap he uses his hands effectively to punch and separate. Aligned in a 5 or over a tight end could set the edge and make plays on the perimeter. Has chase ability and can make plays from the backside. Can lay a hit when tackling. Running through the ball carrier and finishing. Flashes solid pass rush tools with ability to bend the corner and close with a burst. In limited pass drops showed quickness getting back and a feel for the throwing lane. Caused quarterbacks to come off the read. Some question if he could develop into a 3-4 drop backer. He looked good in that role at the Shrine Bowl. When lined up head on a tackle at times struggled to escape and was washed out against the run. Can get stuck on a block trying to counter in the pass rush. Is a projection at this point because he’s undersized to play head on a tackle and has little experience as an outside linebacker. Could fill out his frame or work to develop as a linebacker. He’s a smart player and could develop linebacker skills best on what was seen at the Shrine Bowl. Athletic ability is there so someone will like his future. Shrine Bowl notes: Played on the edge at linebacker versus a tight end and defensive end. Had some battles in the one-on-one pass rush drills and flashed quickness and up field burst. Showed an inside counter move. As an outside linebacker was outstanding over a tight end with quick hands and ability to shed on the move. Was solid in flat coverage. 2019 stats: 60 T, 11.5 TFL, 8 sacks, 1 PBU, 10 QBH, 1 FF, 1 BK. Edge speed:left 2.16, right 2.19. OSR:4/19. Third/fourth round. (A-33 1/2, H-9 1/2, BP-17, SS-4.21).
