He consistently boomed high hanging punts in Shrine Bowl practices, averaging 40.5 yards per punt in the game with none of the four returned. In 2019, due to his extraordinary hang time, only seven punts were returned for a total of nine yards. Put 44 punts down inside the 20-yard line over a two year period. Consistent with good touch and placement. The right-footed punter has a long angular frame and was rated the number one punter coming out of high school by the Kohls’ Kicking. The athletic Townsend also played quarterback and cornerback in high school. He finished his Gator career with a 44.8 yard average on 93 punts. Holds the school record for most yards by a punter in a single game (432 yards, 9 punts). Was a semi-finalist for the Ray Guy Award. Excellent holder for kick placement.
