Ourlads' Profile:
2020 Guide: What Ourlads' Scouting Services said about ASHTYN DAVIS: California, 6007 202 4.50. Two-year starter, Santa Cruz, CA. Scholarship athlete in track who walked on in football. Primarily an offensive player in high school, he is somewhat of a late bloomer. An outstanding athlete who is developing into an elite safety. Earned second-team All-Pac 12 honors as a senior. Experience in a variety of coverages and has lined up at corner, nickel, in the box, along with one and two high safety. Fluid initial movements with easy backpedal combined with smooth transitions. Quick reacting once he diagnoses key. Tracks well moving downhill and can deliver a hit. Has a burst to close on a ball carrier. Physical attacking blocks and working to the ball. Has outstanding range coming from one high to make plays in run support. Can chase all over the field and is consistently around the ball. Solid zone defender with range and angles to the ball. Has range to get over the top as a high safety. Can open up and drive to the deep outside. Flashes ball skills with extension to get to the catch point. Normally sees threats and the quarterback and recovers if out of position. Sudden break on the ball when he sees it. Has shown matchup skill in the slot. Can have tunnel vision and occasionally be late reacting to route combinations. Will miss a tackle at times by being overly aggressive and not gathering on the tackle. Outstanding special teams player who has demonstrated return skill along with kick coverage. He still has some development but his upside and versatility should make him at least a second day pick. 2019 stats: 57 T, 1 TFL, 4 PBU, 2 FF, 2 INT. Position drills only-his choice. Second/third round. (A-30 1/2, H-9 3/8, VJ-DNP, SS-DNP).
