Ourlads' Profile:

2020 Guide: What Ourlads' Scouting Services said about JEREMY CHINN: Southern Illinois, 6030 221 4.43. Four-year starter, Fishers, IN. Was second-team All-America and first-team All-MVC in 2019. Imposing size and length for a safety Chinn has remarkable athletic ability for his size. Played primarily a two high-quarters and half safety. Has been effective dropping down and playing the short to intermediate middle zones. Disciplined flat foot read in quarters he can quickly react moving downhill adjusting and making tackles in space. Solid angles to the ball with range in pursuit. Normally a secure wrap tackler, he can lay the wood at times. Has made some big plays blitzing inside from two high. Hits the gap and closes. Flashes take-on ability coming downhill with ability to use long arms to shed on the move. Outstanding range in deep coverage. Can get over the top and cover ground as a half player. At his best in quarters with matchup skill to mirror inside receivers. Sudden to break on the ball getting his hands inside to the catch point. Occasionally lines up on slot receivers and can stay in phase up the field. Recovers if separated on a cut. As a short zone player his length impacts the quarterback’s ability to work intermediate zones. Not the most aggressive tackler, he will go low and barely hang on at times. As a deep zone defender can hesitate and get attracted to one route letting another run free. Needs work on processing route combinations. Some inconsistency in reactions as some hesitation shows up. Leaves some plays on the field. Has tools and top notch athletic ability but will need to develop consistency at the next level. Senior Bowl notes: Played mostly in the deep zones but also took some reps at nickel. Tracked well downhill in run support and showed range in pursuit. Reacted well in deep coverage with good angles to the ball. Some hesitation matched up on an inside receiver. 2019 stats: 71 T, 2.5 TFL, 1 sack, 3 PBU, 1 QBH, 1 FR, 4 INT. OSR:2/24. Third/fourth round. (A-32 1/8, H-9 5/8, VJ-41, SS-DNP).
