Ourlads' Profile:
2019 Guide: What Ourlads' NFL Scouting Services said about AMANI HOOKER: Iowa, 5113 210 4.51. Junior entry from Minneapolis, MN. Became a full time starter for the first time in 2018. Made the transition to a hybrid nickel role last season after spending most of his time as a quarter’s strong safety. From the deeper zone shows tracking ability moving downhill and adjusting to cutbacks and bounces outside. Takes proper angles for the most part. Can ward off blocks on the move without losing path to the ball. Solid take-on ability versus a slot using hands to separate and shed. Contains the perimeter run and can come off a block and make a tackle in space. Has blitz skill from depth with speed to close. As a flat foot read quarters safety uses peripheral vision to see multiple threats and does a nice job closing voids in intermediate zones. Shows ability to get to the high point to get to a ball on a deep pass. Plays underneath outside zones extremely well with ability to get under deep routes and react up to the short. Recognition skill puts him consistently in the throwing lane. Shows man skill as a route is extended with speed to stay with a vertical route from a slot. Matches tight ends on verticals and across the field. A little mechanical with his back pedal and can let receivers break the cushion too early. A little slow to react to some route breaks and gets in recovery mode. Occasionally gets hung up in transition. Will under run at times coming from depth but has recovery speed to chase. Does not always finish tackles and does a lot of grabbing and tends to tackle high. Will allow yards after contact as a result. Will contribute on special teams and projects as a sub package player. Can be an eventual full time player in the right scheme. Named Tatum-Woodson Defensive Back of the Year in the Big 10 as well as first-team All Big 10 and second-team All-America. 2018 stats: 65 T, 3.5 TFL, 1 sack, 7 PBU, 4 INT. BTR:left 4.74, right 4.91. OSR:4/ 24. Second/third round. (A-30 1/8, H-9 1/8, VJ-37, SS-4.14).
