Ourlads' Profile:
2018 Guide: What Ourlads' NFL Scouting Services said about JOSH SWEAT: Florida State, 6046 251 4.56. Junior entry and three-year starter from Chesapeake, VA. One of the top high school recruits in the country, Sweat came on to the scene right away with nine starts and five tackles for loss. Despite fighting through a knee injury, he upped his production a bit with a combined 24 tackles for loss while showing glimpses of a top tier edge rushing skill set. While he may have never fulfilled his sky-high expectations, he enters the draft as one of the more overlooked prospects. His potential to be a terror off the edge is still very much alive. Has the ideal frame for the edge. Is extremely long-limbed with big hands and easy knee bend. Keeps his center of gravity low with his hands up. The initial jolt he can deliver to the blocker can stand them up and allow Sweat to consistently gain the initial advantage. Gets into the blocker fast. Has outstanding forward lean to his approach. Plays fast with his weight moving in the right direction. Is able to adjust his path while maintaining his speed and balance. After the initial contact, he struggles to use rush moves and skill to free himself. Is overly reliant on the initial pop and if he doesn’t get it, he rarely wins. There is not nearly enough power derived from his lower half. Has a hard time anchoring against power blockers and there are questions surrounding his surgically repaired knee. Without an increase in strength there, he will be limited in the NFL. His tools and hustle, along with flashes of high quality play, make him an exciting prospect, but a lot of development will need to take place. 2017 stats: 56 T, 12.5 TFL, 5.5 sacks, 3 PBU, 6 QBH. OSR:1/23. Fourth/fifth round. (A-34 5/8, H-10 1/4, BP-16, SS-4.28).
