He stepped onto the Pittsburgh campus as a 235- pound tight end in 2014. After red-shirting his first year, he made the full time move to offensive tackle via injuries to other players just a couple months before the 2015 season. Went on to start 12 games that year and never looked back. Started at right tackle in 2016 and made the move to left tackle last fall, earning first-team All-ACC honors. The former high school basketball star put his rare athletic ability on display over his three years on the field, recording two rushing touchdowns and running routes on trick plays. His biggest draw is exactly that, his speed and agility. At nearly 300 pounds, he can still move like a tight end in space. Has top tier body control. A force as a lead blocker on outside runs where he pulls and hunts for linebackers and defensive backs. In traffic he excels at adjustments on the fly and quick reactions. Very coordinated and plays aggressive. There is plenty of quick twitch to him. Does not handle the power defenders well. Plays small and shows an obvious lack of sturdiness from his base. Too often is easily driven back by a quality bull rush. Needs to keep his pad level lower and widen his base. There just isn’t enough confidence or reliance from his lower half.
